Lockers & Office Furniture in Ottawa

Lockers, filing cabinets, steel desks, shelving and mailboxes refinished on site instead of hauled away and replaced.

Older steel office furniture is often built heavier than what replaces it. A filing cabinet or steel desk from decades ago frequently has thicker metal and sturdier drawer slides than a new one, and the only thing wrong with it is the colour and the scratches. Sending it out the door means paying for new furniture, paying for disposal, and putting a perfectly sound piece of steel into the waste stream.

Electrostatic painting refinishes this kind of furniture where it sits, or in a corner of the building set aside for the job. Rows of lockers in a school, gym or staff room can be done in place, with the paint wrapping into the vents, louvres and door edges that make lockers so awkward to paint any other way. Filing cabinets, steel desks, shelving, washroom partitions and building mailboxes all take the same treatment, which lets an office change its whole colour scheme without changing its furniture.

Each piece is cleaned of hand oils, old labels and adhesive residue, then scuff-sanded so the new coat bonds. Locks, handles, name plates and drawer pulls are masked, and the floor and nearby walls are covered. Drawers and locker doors are emptied beforehand and propped open while they set, so nothing sticks shut. Where staff or students are nearby, low-odour coatings are used and the work is planned around the hours the space is busiest.

Capital Electrostatic refinishes lockers and office furniture for schools, offices, gyms and businesses in Ottawa and the surrounding area. Count the pieces, send a photo of a typical one, and we can start working out the job from there.

Is refinishing worth it compared with buying new?

For solid steel furniture it usually is, because you keep the part that is expensive to make, the steel body, and replace only the part that wore out, the finish. You also avoid delivery, assembly and disposal, and the office does not have to be rearranged around new pieces.

It is not worth it for furniture that is bent, has broken drawer runners or no longer suits how the space is used. We will say so when a piece is better retired.

Can lockers be done while the building is in use?

Yes, with some planning. Lockers are refinished in banks, so one section is out of use at a time while the rest stay available. Users are asked to empty the lockers in the scheduled section beforehand.

Schools and gyms often prefer to schedule the work for a break or a quieter week, which also keeps people well clear of the area while the coating sets.
