Electrostatic Painters in Blackburn Hamlet

Blackburn Hamlet is an east-end Ottawa community wrapped in the Greenbelt, built mostly in the 1970s and early 1980s, with winding crescents and pathways through the surrounding woods. Many of the houses have their original steel or aluminum details: storm doors, wrought-iron or tube railings on front steps, metal mailboxes, garage doors from an early renovation and basement window wells. The small commercial plaza, the schools, churches and the community centre hold the institutional side of things: steel classroom doors, gym lockers, handrails and the frames around their entrances.

After forty-odd years, railings and storm doors on these houses tend to have several layers of paint, some of it chipped down to bare metal at the edges where hands and boots hit most. Good prep means feathering those old edges smooth so the new coat does not telegraph every chip underneath. Since the hamlet is ringed by trees, exterior work also has to contend with falling seeds and leaves in spring and autumn, so we watch the forecast and choose calm days to avoid debris settling into a wet finish.

Getting to Blackburn Hamlet

Blackburn Hamlet is a short trip east on Innes Road or the 174, and we often pair a few houses on the same crescent into one visit when neighbours book together.

Questions from Blackburn Hamlet

Our front step railing is original to the house and has layers of old paint. Is that a problem?
Not if the old paint is well bonded. We remove what is loose, sand down the edges and prime anything bare. If the layers are thick enough to hide the detail of the rail, we will mention whether stripping is worth it.
Can you paint an aluminum storm door?
Aluminum storm doors refinish well. Aluminum needs a primer that bonds to it, but storm door frames and kick panels take the coating well. The glass, screen and closer are masked or removed before we spray.
The community centre has lockers and handrails that are worn. Can that work be done without closing the building?
It can be split into sections so one change room or one hallway is closed at a time. Handrails can often be done in the evening so they are ready for use the next morning.
