Elevator Doors & Cabs in Ottawa

Worn elevator doors, frames and cab panels refinished on site, usually one car at a time so the building keeps a working elevator.

Elevator doors are the most touched, most bumped and most looked-at metal in a condo or office building. Carts, strollers, moving dollies and luggage scrape the bottom of the panels, hands wear through the paint at the edges, and the lobby doors are inspected by every visitor who walks in. When the doors and frames start looking worn, the cost of new elevator entrances is usually far out of proportion to what is actually wrong, which is the finish.

Electrostatic painting lets hoistway doors, frames and cab panels be refinished right where they are installed, without removing anything from the shaft or the cab. The steel is grounded and the charged coating is attracted to it, so the edges and recessed areas of each panel get an even coat while overspray stays off the walls, flooring and call buttons around it. The result is a smooth, uniform finish that looks like it came from the manufacturer rather than from a roller.

Elevator work is planned with the property manager, since a car may need to be held or taken out of service while the doors on its floors are prepared and coated. We usually work on one car at a time so a building with more than one elevator always has another running, mask call buttons, position indicators, sills and surrounding finishes, and use low-odour coatings where the building is occupied. Residents are told ahead of time which car and which floors are affected each day.

Capital Electrostatic refinishes elevator doors, frames and cab interiors for condominium corporations, property managers and office buildings in Ottawa and the surrounding area. Tell us how many cars and floors the building has, and we can sketch out a schedule before anyone is inconvenienced.

Serving Ottawa, Almonte, Arnprior and surrounding area.

Do the elevator doors have to come off?

No. The landing doors stay on their tracks and the frames stay in the wall. Each door is prepared and coated from the landing side, with the car positioned so the doors can be worked on safely and the surrounding controls protected.

Cab panels are done inside the car, with the floor, ceiling, handrails and operating panel covered. Stainless steel and previously painted panels each get a primer suited to them, so the new finish bonds to what is already there.

How long is each elevator affected?

That depends on the number of floors, how many doors and panels are in scope and the condition they are in. Rather than quote a generic figure, we walk the building and give the property manager a day-by-day plan showing which car is affected and when.

That plan is what goes into the notice to residents, so people with mobility needs or a move booked can plan around it well in advance.
