Electrostatic Painters in Carp

Carp is a village in West Carleton, home to the Carp Fair grounds, a Saturday farmers' market and the Diefenbunker museum, surrounded by the farms and country lots of the Carp River valley. Its metal is a mix of village and rural: steel doors and railings on churches, the community hall and the fairground buildings, storefront frames on the main street, and on the farms and acreages around it, gates, livestock panels, mailbox posts and the railings on wide country porches. The newer estate homes on roads toward Kinburn and Dunrobin add metal garage doors and ornamental gates.

Fairground and community buildings in Carp see busy weekends and quiet weekdays, which makes weekday refinishing the obvious choice for their doors and railings. On country properties, the challenges are wind and dust from gravel driveways, both of which can mar a fresh exterior finish if the timing is wrong. We wet down dusty areas where it helps and pick calm days. Many rural homes also have metal that has never been painted at all, like galvanized gates and posts, and those need a specific primer before any colour will stick.

Getting to Carp

Carp is a drive out the 417 and Carp Road for us, and we plan visits so exterior coating can finish in good light.

Questions from Carp

Can galvanized gates and posts be painted?
Yes, but galvanized steel needs special prep. We clean off the oily film it often has, scuff the surface and use a primer made to bond to zinc. Skipping that step is the main reason paint peels off galvanized metal.
Our hall has steel doors and railings that the public uses every weekend. When can you do them?
Midweek is best. We can refinish doors and rails on a Tuesday or Wednesday so they have plenty of time to cure before the weekend crowd. Each entrance is done in turn so the building stays accessible.
Will dust from our gravel driveway ruin the finish on outdoor metal?
It can if a car drives by while the coating is wet. We ask that traffic be kept off the lane while we work outside, and we can dampen the gravel nearby on dry days. Once the coating sets, dust simply washes off.
