Electrostatic Painters in Gatineau

Gatineau covers a lot of ground on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, and its buildings show it. The core of Hull has large federal office complexes and newer condo towers, where the metal includes elevator doors and frames, stairwell and corridor fire doors, office partitions and steel furniture. Older streets in Hull and around Pointe-Gatineau are lined with duplexes and triplexes whose outdoor metal staircases and balcony railings are a familiar Quebec feature. Further out, Aylmer, the Plateau and the Gatineau sector have newer houses with steel entry doors, garage doors and aluminum deck railings.

In occupied office and condo buildings the work is mostly about coordination. Elevator doors are refinished in place with one car out of service at a time, corridors are ventilated and protected with drop sheets, and the labels on fire-rated doors and frames are masked so they stay readable. On a plex, the outdoor staircase is often the only route to the upper units, so rust at the welds and wear on the treads are tackled one flight at a time to keep tenants coming and going. Exterior staircases and railings are best done between late spring and early fall, when the steel stays warm and dry long enough for paint to cure.

Getting to Gatineau

Gatineau is just across the bridges from downtown Ottawa, and we include Hull, Aylmer and the eastern sectors in our regular scheduling. Work in occupied buildings there is booked through the property or facility manager.

Questions from Gatineau

Can the elevator doors and frames in our building be painted without taking them out?
They are normally refinished in place. Electrostatic spraying is well suited to elevator doors because the coating wraps evenly around the edges without heavy buildup that could affect the door track. We work with your building operations team so one elevator is taken out of service at a time and the others keep running.
Our stairwell doors are fire-rated. Is it a problem to paint them?
Painting the steel face of a fire-rated door is normal, but the rating labels on the door and frame must never be painted over. We mask those labels before any spraying and leave the hinges, closers and latching hardware free to work. If a label is already painted over or missing, that is something to raise with whoever does your fire safety inspections.
The outdoor metal staircase on our plex is the only access to the upstairs units. How do you paint it without blocking tenants?
We break the staircase into sections, usually one flight or landing at a time, and leave a usable path while each part dries. Rust is cleaned off the welds and stringers first, and treads get a durable finish because they take the most wear. Tenants get notice of which section is being done and when it is clear to use.
