Electrostatic Painters in Vanier
Long a centre of French-speaking Ottawa, Vanier lies just across the Rideau River from Lowertown and Sandy Hill, with Montreal Road as its main street. Its streets are lined with older single houses, duplexes, triplexes and small walk-up apartment buildings, many from the first half of the twentieth century, along with modern infill where old lots have been redeveloped. Older buildings here are full of metal worth saving: cast-iron radiators, exterior steel staircases and balconies at the back of multi-unit houses, wrought-iron railings at the front, apartment entry doors and mailbox panels. The shops and restaurants on Montreal Road and Beechwood Avenue add storefront frames, roll-up security shutters and steel service doors.
Walk-ups and multiplexes are occupied buildings, so tenants have to keep using the stairs and halls while we work. We paint corridor doors on a set schedule, give notice, and keep each unit's door closable by the evening. Radiators have to be cold and clean before anything goes on them, so that work belongs in late spring or early fall when the heat is off. Tight laneways and narrow side yards are common, and we bring compact gear suited to those spaces.
Getting to Vanier
Vanier is close to the centre of the city, reached by Montreal Road, the Vanier Parkway or St. Patrick Street across the river. Multi-unit buildings are scheduled in stages with the landlord or property manager.
Questions from Vanier
- Can old cast-iron radiators be painted where they are?
- Yes, once the heat is off and they are cool. We vacuum the dust out of the fins, degrease them, mask the valves and the floor, and spray them in place. Paint reaches deep between the sections, which a brush rarely manages.
- Can apartment entry doors be painted while tenants are living there?
- That is how most of our multi-unit work goes. Each tenant is told their day, the door is done in one visit, and it is closable and lockable by evening. Door hardware is removed or covered and peepholes are protected.
- Is a rusting back stair and balcony on a triplex worth painting, or should it be replaced?
- If the structure is solid and only the surface is rusting, painting is usually the economical answer. We check for steel that has lost thickness at connections and treads, and if we find any, we tell you to have it looked at before we paint. Sound steel gets cleaned, treated and primed before the colour coat.
